1. Pre-Start Checks & Sequencing
Follow these steps in exact order to prepare the turbine for startup:
Verify Lube Oil Interlocks: Start the auxiliary oil pump and confirm that the Oil Inlet/Outlet manifold registers a stable pressure of 0.35 MPa before initiating shaft rotation.
Execute Casing Pre-Heating: Slowly introduce low-pressure sCO2 to bring the Casing Flange and main body temperature up at a controlled rate of 2.5°C per minute to prevent uneven thermal expansion.
Engage the Barring Gear: Rotate the Output Shaft via the turning gear at 20–30 RPM to eliminate temporary thermal rotor bow.
Confirm Seal Gas Pressure: Ensure that dry seal gas injection to the Labyrinth Seals maintains a positive differential pressure of at least 0.05 MPa over the internal process pressure.
2. Operational Standard Parameters
Inlet Flow Optimization: Monitor the Inlet Volute and Nozzle Guide Vanes to prevent aerodynamic stalling or choking during initial loading.
Dual-Stage Monitoring: Track pressure drops across the Rotor Blades (HP & LP stages) continuously to ensure balanced torque distribution along the Turbine Disc assemblies.
Exhaust Thermal Management: Ensure the Exhaust Diffuser remains free of structural obstructions to allow optimal pressure recovery into the downstream recuperators.
3. Preventative Maintenance & Inspection
Labyrinth Seals: Inspect every 4,000 operational hours for erosion or clearance widening caused by the high-velocity sCO2 flow path.
Jounst Bearing Assembly: Perform dynamic vibration analysis weekly; check for high-frequency sub-synchronous vibration indicating oil whirl or rotor misalignment.
Blade Structural Integrity: Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) via dye penetrant or eddy current testing on the Rotor Blades STAGES during annual overhauls to detect micro-pitting or stress corrosion cracking.
Casing Fasteners: Check torque specifications on all Casing Flange bolts bi-annually to mitigate high-pressure gas bypass leaks.
